This is a very poorly, unorganized scool. The teachers do not always look out for the childs best interest. The principle is unapproachable & treats you if they do no wrong in their school, they child can be the only problem not them
We love the teachers and being able to walk to school. We also love the garden. The math situation has not been so great, but then all of the SCASD elementary schools are using Investigations. As a pilot school for the program our teachers were not allowed to use flash cards or any of the traditional means of teaching math. We are hopeful the math program will change. Other than that issue we have had a great experience at Corl Street.
Corl St Elem School is a great school. My son and his friend are going there and they really like it. A lot a excellent teachers and great parents too.
I have a child attending kindergarten at Corl Street. The kindergartners have many activities (music, reading, science) throughout the week, and cover special topics (most recently, space). This year the kindergartners have homework assignments. Definitely an intense curriculum for such young students.
Corl Street has great reputaion especially academically and I strongly think great paretns in the community made that reputation. Parents really care and deeply involved in their kids ed. Meanwhile, I greatly disappointed to the leadership of the new principle. He is not willing to communicate wtih parents. I feel he is only a servant of SD (I am trying not be rude but no other word comes up in my mind.) As you already know, kids sucess is strongly associated with the teacher. Most of the teachers are nice and work hard. Like other schools, some of them are more academically pushy while others are not. Again, if CS is better than others, I would credit parents than others.
Corl Street El School is a public school located in State College, PA. Its one of 7 elementary schools in the State College Area School District. Corl Street El School operates from June 8 to July 6. The CS is a great school for K-2 graders, for the teachers (K-2) are really qualified, and know how to deal with kids by the right way. But now everything is different. The new homeroom teacher (3rd grade) is too young to handle the kids, and the math teacher is too pushy, for she blamed my daughter for anything wrong in Math class, but not anything wrong with the teachers own teaching way. Does she really know how to teach 3rd graders math problems? I doubt it. Also, the principal is very hard to talk to him, and I really miss the previous secretary in main office, Ms. Fox, for she always responds when I ask for help.
My son is in fourth grade and has attended Corl Street since kindergarten. Corl Street has an excellent teacher to student ratio, very involved teachers and parents. I am so pleased my son has had such a nurturing start to his educational career.
Both of my boys attend this school and just love it. They are very happy with their teachers and always have something good to say about their day. I really like the small feeling of the school and feel my child doesnt get lost in the shuffle of things. I have always felt comfortable talking to the teachers and staff and always found them very friendly. Cheryl Y.
This is a wonderful school for grades K through 2. Over the past 5 years, the K through 2 teachers showed a commitment to teaching children through instruction and challenging assignments. K through 2 teachers also provided good feedback of what the class and your child worked on each week through the use of written weekly summaries and/or website updates. Sadly, the wheels come off the bus during grades 3 and 4. The school work assignments became significant less challenging, The law online Education Information the homework was few and not challenging enough to exceed 15 minutes to complete. IMO supplemental work provided by parents is definitely required. Communication and feedback from teachers dwindles at these grade levels: very little correspondence and lack of updates to individual teacher websites. Class size varies significantly each year. Some classes may be as small as 15 students while other classes may have about 26 students. Principal too new to rate.
Weve seen other schools in the district, and were proud to say that we (and our children) love this school. The teachers are bulous, the discipline and values are enforced, and the specialists are superb!
